This quote is by the famous writer and poet, Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941). The man himself was a great modern thinker and writer. Rabindranath Tagore was born in Calcutta (now Kolkata) into a Bengali Brahmin family. He was educated at home and at school and after graduation he went to England, where he attended the University of Calcutta and eventually acquired a law degree from the University of Calcutta.

Tagore returned to India in 1884 and soon became involved in nationalistic activities. His fight for independence was not always popular with the British Raj, who often criticized him in their publications for his support for Indian nationalism. Tagore founded the Sarada movement in 1905 for women's education. He was elected President of the Indian National Congress in 1916 and when World War I broke out, he called on the people of India to resist British rule.

As a leader of India's struggle for independence, Tagore was awarded India's highest honor, the Bharat Ratna in 1941. After India’s independence, Tagore traveled around the world giving lectures on Indian culture and literature. He also wrote extensively in many different forms including dance dramas, novels, essays and poetry.

He won many awards during his lifetime including an honorary doctorate from Oxford University as well as honors from Russia as well as Japan as well as France as well as Italy.
